Yin Yoga

YIN YOGA

Yin yoga is a restorative form of yoga focused on quieting the body and mind. Positions in Yin yoga involve a gentle, soft stretch, performed in stillness and with great presence. Each position is held for at least 3-5 minutes, allowing you time to calm the mind and feel into the body. In Yin yoga, we work with the body's fascia, connective tissue, more than the muscles. Our body parts are connected by the network that makes up the fascia, around muscles, skeleton, organs, nerves, and blood vessels. Through Yin yoga, muscles gain greater mobility, creating a freer flow in areas that have stagnated or become stiff. This is achieved by going just far enough into the position and holding it for an extended period. Everyone can do Yin yoga, even those with hypermobility issues, older individuals, or injuries as we never push to the extreme ends. The focus is often on the hips and lower back, areas rich in connective tissue and said to store both physical and emotional tensions.
You practice the sequences together with others but will go into the positions to different extents - while the teacher provides individual assistance and guidance as needed.
