Common questions about
Before your visit
Yasuragi is more than just a spa. It is a place for relaxation rooted in Japanese bathhouse culture. The Japanese bath at Yasuragi is a place of stillness and reflection. It is important to respect other guests by speaking softly and following our onsen etiquette. Our warm outdoor pools are a place for silent bathing, where only the sound of water and nature can be heard.

Do I have to use your swimwear, or can I bring my own?
While in our Japanese bath, we ask that you wear the swimwear provided at check-in. This is to help create a harmonious environment with minimal distractions. For the same reason, all our guests wear a yukata (the traditional Japanese cotton robe) during their stay. We kindly ask that you respect this.
-
Can I come just to swim?
If you just want to swim, you can buy a bath card with 10 visits to the bath.

How does the bathing ritual work?
Cleanse in silence. Here’s how it works: You’ll receive one bath towel and two small washcloths for cleansing. Inside the washing area, you’ll find stools and buckets in front of taps. You wash yourself naked. Place one of the small towels on the stool and take a seat. Fill the bucket and pour water over yourself—again and again and again.
As you begin to unwind, slowly start the cleansing ritual. Wet the washcloth, apply soap (everything is provided—soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion), and wash your entire body thoroughly. It is important that your body is completely clean before entering the bath.
Then rinse off by using the bucket again in the same way as before. When you’re finished, show respect for the next guest by placing the bucket back on the stool.
Now it’s time for the soul—sink into the warm spring waters. In the washing rooms, you’ll also find hot baths and a dry sauna, and for those who prefer, this is a space where you may remain nude.
Afterwards, put on your swimwear and step into the main bathhouse. Here, you’re free to explore our new experiences such as the carbonated bath, sleep sauna, and much more. You’ll find information about all our experiences and daily activities on our digital screens.
Remember to drink plenty of water, as the environment is warm. In keeping with Japanese tradition, we kindly ask that you switch off your mobile phone while in the Japanese bath and the Dojo.
Japanese baths - More than just a spa
A bath with ancient roots
Yasuragi is the place to breathe out. The Japanese word Yasuragi can be described as the peaceful exhale you make when you sink down into a hot spring and let go for a while, a breath of the soul.
Yasuragi, breathe out
Yasuragi is not a spa. It is a Japanese bath based on ancient bathing traditions. Washing and bathing according to the ancient Japanese tradition is an excellent way to unwind and let go of everyday life. That is why you should start your visit to Yasuragi by washing yourself. Even today, the Japanese use this ancient meditative tradition to relax. Our wish is for you to feel that you go home with renewed strength and energy.
Since ancient times, cleanliness has been an important part of the Japanese daily life. Cleanliness originally comes from Shintoism and Buddhism. According to Buddhism, one should appear before Buddha clean in body. But it's not just about cleansing the body, but also the soul. Through washing, the body becomes clean. It is said that the soul is purified in the hot spring.
Yukatan, a garment with ancient roots
Yukatan, the Japanese cotton robe, is your garment for your entire stay, even during meals, so remember to keep it dry. When changing into yukata, you leave a part of your identity behind for a moment and are allowed to just be. Remember to leave valuables in lockers or in the room. You return yukata and slippers upon departure, but you can keep swimwear.
Wash in silence
Here's how: You will receive 1 large towel and 2 small washcloths for washing.
Once inside the washing area, you will find stools and buckets in front of faucets. You wash yourself naked. Place one of the small towels on the stool, sit down. Fill the bucket and pour water over yourself again and again. When you start to feel more relaxed, slowly start washing. Wet the washcloth and put soap on it (everything you need is provided; soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion) and wash yourself. It is important for the whole body to be clean before entering the bath. Then rinse off using the bucket in the same way as before.
When you are done washing, show respect for the guests who come after you by placing the bucket neatly on the stool again. Now it's your soul's turn, and you can sink into the hot springs. In the washing area, you will find hot springs and dry saunas, and here is the opportunity for those who wish to be naked. Afterwards, put on your swimwear and head out to the bathhouse. Here, you can explore our new experiences such as carbonated baths and sleeping saunas, and much more. More information about our new experiences and activities can be found on our digital screens. Remember to drink plenty of water, as we have a warm environment. According to Japanese tradition, mobile phones are not allowed anywhere in the Japanese bath, lounges, or dojo.
