Yukata - A Japanese Cotton Robe
Bringing calm and strength
Yukata is a traditional Japanese garment that can be worn by both men and women. In appearance, a yukata resembles a kimono. However, a kimono is usually made of silk, while a yukata is typically made of cotton.
In Japan, both men and women wear yukata. Originally, noblemen and warriors dressed in yukata after a relaxing bath. As Japanese public baths, known as sento, became increasingly popular, the use of yukata spread to the general public.
The yukata you receive as a guest at Yasuragi is specifically designed for Yasuragi and adorned with the ancient Japanese pattern Asanoha, which is a geometric pattern representing hemp leaves. In Japanese culture, hemp symbolizes growth and good health, which is what we wish for you as a guest. In the past, children in Japan were clothed in hemp fabric because it was believed that the robust and fast-growing qualities of hemp would "rub off" and create a strong child. Even today, clothes made of hemp can be purchased, and there are yukata garments made from this material.
At Yasuragi Spa, you can borrow a yukata during your stay. It is also available for purchase to take home upon departure or purchase your yukata in our webshop.
